I’m so excited it’s Friday because that means it’s time to meet our second Enchanted Visions Artist,

DEANNA BACH

Enchanted Visions Artist Deanna Bach

Who is, “Deanna Bach”?  Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Deanna Bach-Talsma, but I use Deanna Bach as my artists name. I am thirtymummble and married with one 5 year old girl and we live in Ontario, Canada.
As a Canadian, I love double-doubles, smarties and drinking my milk out of a bag. 😉
I work part time as an artist, both the paintings and some vinyl graphics work (cars, signs, tshrits), parttime with my husbands business helping him hang eavestrough, siding, roofing etc… and full time as a mommy. We have two cats.
I did not go to school for art but my dad is an artist (acrylic landscape) and he raised me to love art and pursue it from childhood until even now.
My favorite things are my family and friends, foxes, blue everything, clouds (I have a mild obsession with the sky), lavender, chocolate, birds, watermelon, the number 73, reading, and fantasy anything.

How did you hear about Enchanted Visions and why did you want to become a member artist?

I really don’t remember how I heard about Enchanted Visions… I think I probably saw some of my fellow fantasy artists doing it and thought it looked fun.

Each month, Enchanted Visions artists are challenged with creating a piece of art for that month’s theme.  Please share some of the art you have created for Enchanted Visions with us.  For each piece of art, please describe how it interprets that month’s theme, any story behind the art, and the theme’s meaning to you.

“Enchanted Visions” – For this piece I was inspired by synesthesia which is what some people have when senses mix… like seeing numbers and letters as colours or personalities (which I have) or seeing music as movement and colours, which is what is represnted in this piece.

“Stardancer” – She is fairly obviously a star dancer, literal interpretation of the theme. I had this image in my head and I wasn’t sure I could pull of the effect of the skirt
turning in to stars in a sweeping motion, but I gave it a try and it worked out how I wanted it to! This is still one of my favorite paintings.

“Wisdom (Kindreds – Ibis)” – I wanted to do a different take on the Wisdom theme and pull from a different culture so I went with Egyptian where the ibis is associated with wisdom. I also thought it would be fun to try to do a typical Egyptian heirglypics as a background. It also happens to fit well in my large “Kindreds” series of a person and their kindred spirit animal.

EV has a monthly auction of the work created.  Do you sell your work there?

Yes, If I have done the theme I do sell the original as well as prints on the monthly auction.

Are there challenges knowing you are one of many artists creating art for the same EV theme? Does this knowledge hinder you or give you momentum when creating for the monthly theme?

I LOVE painting to a given theme and part of the joy and challenge is thinking of a take on the theme that will be original. Enchanted Visions is fantastic at giving very vague theme ideas that can be taken any number of ways and usually is by all the artists. I love seeing what the other artists come up with, its like seeing their muses and what they like, as art is usually pretty personal. Its a fantastic way of getting to know your fantasy art family.

Muse – Which definition works for you?  to reflect or think about, usually in silence , or a physical source of inspiration?  Which do you rely on to create your art?  What happens if your “muse” isn’t working?  How do you break through?

My muse is a chatterbox! She is constantly tossing ideas at me. Some are good concepts, some are not. Some easy and others that I have to put in my “to do” file of my brain as I don’t yet have the skills to pull it off yet. I think my muse is a combination of things. my brain taking in the beauty of the world and telling me to try to express my joy at these marvels by making my own version of the beauty. I also like to express some more suble of life complexities, usually topics dealing with women issues in some of my pieces.
I have had eureka moments of ideas at completely random times… like when doing something so mundane as driving or cleaning. Music is also a huge muse to me as a lot of songs have given me very clear pictures in my head based on the music and/or lyrics. I have such a huge love and respect for living that I seem to have an endless source of ideas. I cant think of a time where I have had nothing in my “idea drawer”, seriously, my muse does not shut up. Thank goodness!

Describe (and provide a photograph if you like) your studio/workspace.   What would you change about it, if anything, for it to become your dream workspace?

Well I had an art room (an unused bedroom), which was also a computer/files/junk room. After I had my daughter 5 years ago it was just not possible for me to use that room and watch my daughter so I moved most of my art stuff in to the dining room and I paint at the dinner table and store everything in a huge hutch in that room. Maybe some day I will have an art room again, but for now this works. My dream studio… this I have planned out in great detail in my mind. I will spare you the entire boring floorplan, but basically it would be on the top floor in a round room with a walk out balcony. Stocked with ALL the best paint and paper and with a section for my daughters art stuff too. And a large place for my friends to gather to do art and hang out, with a shop at the bottom for selling our art and other awesome goods. When my ship comes in…

“Paint” a picture of yourself for us using 10 colorful words to describe you, the total picture.

Optimistic, Breezy, Amazonian, Dreamy, Strong, Logical, Happy, Friendly, Intelligent, Hippie

Thank you so much Deanna for this wonderful look into your creative process, your art and you.
