Blue Princess

My love for fantasy, fairies and elves made me sketch this fairy tale princess.  Ink, acrylic and Faber Castell gel sticks on 5 x 7 mixed media paper. I call her ‘Blue Princess’ because of the obvious amount of blue I used and because she looks a little melancholy.

Inspiration Block – Be Yourself

Recently I picked up Julie Nutting’s book, Collage Couture. I love the book and I  love her collage girls.  This inspiration block was my first attempt at it.   This block also marked the first time that I actually loved the background that I created with torn papers and paint. While I like the girl […]

What I Did for EMG’s Sketch Fest

This past weekend, I had a bit of time to participate in the monthly Sketch Fest, over at Ellen Million Graphics. So many prompts, so little time.  I’m going to make sure I have more time to participate in the next one. I chose two prompts by Rene Kunert:   ‘Hair’ and ‘Message in A […]

Journal and Digital Art Pieces

This week has been really busy.  I’ve been working outside most days, but I did take the time to do a little bit of art. This cute girl was another just for fun doodle, and she really was fun and relaxing to work on. I did tackle an old digital piece that I was never […]

One Cup At A Time, Inspiration Block

A new inspiration block.  I love these little blocks of wood. Piled up cups.  I’m sure you’ve seen them before or maybe even created your own cup art.  There’s just something about tea and coffee cups and what they symbolize.  Slowing down.  Taking time to have a cup of tea and have a conversation with […]

What The Paint Splatters Revealed

On April 1st, I splashed some paint on one of my journal pages.  I’d seen an exercise on a blog somewhere, (for the life of me, I can’t remember where, I’ve visited so many blogs lately), where you splatter paint on a page and let it dry, then go back later and see what you […]

My Fairy Art Mother’s Message

I love fantasy art and my digital work is full of fairies and elves, so I guess a fairy was bound to make her appearance in my doodle/sketch book sooner or later. She wasn’t a serious sketch.  She was a “just to doodle”, doodle, just for me, while I was watching television.  I started with […]

More Practice – To The Dreamer

To the dreamer, everything is possible. This piece was inspired by our first true spring day with blue skies and little fluffy clouds.  The message is so fitting right now, as I am up to my elbows in seeds and planting and organising for our other projects here at home and still trying to practice […]

Shine Your Light

Shine Your Light Done on 9 x 12 mixed media paper with acrylics, Faber Castell Pitt pens and brush pens, Faber Castell Gel Sticks, gesso and gel medium.  This wasn’t what I had in mind when I started this.  Totally different and I really like her.  She began to develop when I added the collar […]

Art Journal – Let It Bloom

Get swept away in your imagination.  Let it bloom. I’m working on being more comfortable with my painting.  What looks like a mistake doesn’t have to be, or it can be painted over.  When I work digitally, I always have the security of the undo or delete a layer.  I have to get comfortable working […]
